It is easy to change your address with the United States Postal Service. You have a few options for doing this important task.

Online Address Change

You may go online to the USPS website, and for a small fee, you can have Change Of Address Online. You need a credit card or debit card to pay the fee which is used to verify your identity.

Request Address Change Over Phone

You may also call the post office at the main number and follow the prompts to update your address. You also need to verify your identity by paying the fee using your credit or debit card.

Change of Address Form

Another way to change the address is by filling out the change of address form at a postal office. Hand it to the postal worker there to have it processed.

With each option, you need to allow about one week or so for the information to be updated. Your mail and packages will be forwarded to you for 12 months after the change of address has been filled out or otherwise submitted to the USPS.

Update Address Individually with Family

Be sure to also individually update your address to which you are moving with family, friends, and businesses, banks and credit card companies. These companies usually offer you an opportunity to change your address by filling out a few lines on the back of a bill or statement.

You can also usually go online to a company you do business with and follow instructions there to update your address with them.

The DMV will need you to fill out a change of address form with them for confirmation of your new address. This can be time-consuming but it is best to make sure that even though the post office has your new address that everyone else you know or do business with has it, too.
